Acadia's carriage roads were originally constructed on the private estate of John D. Rockefeller, Jr. and were later donated to the park. Today, there are over 57 miles of the broken-stone roads with 17 stone bridges. The roads still carry horse and carriages, hikers and bikers but no cars.

The roads are beautiful
The roads were began in 1913 and not completed until 1940. Rockefeller spent several million dollars building the roads.
